What is a Community Group?

Community Groups are smaller contexts in which people can gather for friendship, accountability, study and prayer, laughter and occasional tears. Our groups are an essential part of the mission at Graceland because they allow us to grow through accountability and encouragement.

Each group has its own unique flavor – some meet every week, all throughout the year; others meet on a semester schedule, meaning they run for 6-12 weeks and then take a break before starting back up. We have on-campus groups that meet on the Graceland campus and off campus groups that meet in the homes of Graceland members. Despite their uniqueness, all groups involve conversation, prayer, discussing scripture, and figuring out how to be transformed into who God wants us to become.

Why should I be part of a Community Group?

Genesis 1 shows us that we are created in the image of God and that God is a God of community and relationships. The Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) is a perfect example of what community looks like and gives us our model of how we should interact with one another. If we’re honest, we all have a deep longing to know and be known, which is a God-designed desire. Our groups are a great way to fill this need in our lives. Additionally, it is impossible to fully engage in what is happening at Graceland without participating in a group. Our groups are where relationships are formed, accountability takes place, and care happens. Each of our group leaders sees him/herself as the teacher and shepherd of the group, walking alongside group members through their various highs and lows of life.
