New Christian Class

When: November 2nd, 9th, and 16th during 10:30am Service

Where: New Albany Campus – Kids Building Room C116

NOTE: Parents will need to attend the class with their child.

New Christian Class is for 2nd-5th Graders and will meet for 3 consecutive weeks on Sunday morning at 10:30am (Kid Building Room C116). This class is for kids who are asking questions about how to become a Christian and/or baptism.

How do I know when my child is ready for baptism?

The Bible does not provide us with a specific age for when a child is ready for baptism. God has the power to save anyone at any age and no matter the age, it is a gift and a miracle. Each spiritual journey is different, and we must be okay with allowing the Holy Spirit to do His work in the heart of each child. A child who is ready for baptism will:

Understand the gospel (1 Corinthians 15:1-4, Ephesians 2:8-10).

Feel remorse and sorrow for personal sin they have committed/recognize their need for a Savior (Romans 3:23, 6:23).

Have faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord (Romans 5:8, 10:9-10)

Commit to following Jesus with their whole life – Luke 9:23-26 “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me.

How do I know if my child should take this class?

Your child has prayed and made a confession of faith and would like to be baptized.

Your child is asking questions frequently about becoming a Christian and baptism.

Will my child be ready for baptism after this class?

This class will cover the foundation of what your child needs to know about becoming a Christian and baptism, but salvation is authentic for each child. Salvation is what makes your child ready for baptism, not a course completion.

Your child may complete this class and still not be ready for baptism but that is okay – your child will complete this class and have a better understanding of what it means to be a Christian, baptism, the Lord’s supper, and how to grow in their faith.

Your child must be able to articulate their testimony in their own words. Length is not as important as understanding the gospel, their need for salvation, and sincerity in their words and heart.
